Privacy Policy for Reader's Companion
Last updated: 4 October 2026. Draft – to be reviewed by a lawyer before release.
1. Who is responsible
Reader's Companion is developed and operated by Jesper Bogetoft Dall under the name Dallicious Studio, Gustav Wieds Vej 15, 4700 Næstved, Denmark ("we"). Contact: [email protected]. We are the data controller for the information described here.
2. What we process
- Account: a user id and, if you create a login, your e-mail address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the id and e-mail that service gives us (Apple may give a hidden relay address).
- Your library: books, status, how far you are, reading sessions (start, end, duration), notes and quotes, photos you take for notes, goals, shelves and decorations.
- Reading club: the club's name, who is in it, and what you yourself put on the shared shelf: title, status, progress, rating and a short comment. Your notes, sessions and the rest of your library are never shared.
- Purchases: which product you bought, when, and whether it is active. Payment happens at Apple or Google; we never see card details.
- Crash reports: when crash reporting is enabled, technical details about the error (app version, operating system, what went wrong) are sent without your reading content.
We use no advertising identifiers and do not track you across apps or websites. The app uses no cookies.
3. Why we process it
- To provide the app and synchronise your library between your devices and within your reading club (our agreement with you, GDPR art. 6(1)(b)).
- To handle purchases, Premium and bookmarks, and to comply with Danish bookkeeping law (legal obligation, art. 6(1)(c)).
- To find and fix errors (legitimate interest, art. 6(1)(f)).
- "Denmark is reading right now": anonymous, aggregated statistics of what many people read. It is built only from combined figures in which no individual can be identified (legitimate interest, art. 6(1)(f)).
4. Looking up books
When you scan or search for a book, the app sends the ISBN or search terms to our server, which looks up the book and processes the request. No personal information is sent along.
5. Where your data lives
Your data is stored on our own servers in Denmark and Germany (EU). Backups are encrypted. Only the developer has access to the servers.
6. Processors
We use these providers, all under data processing agreements:
- Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany): servers and backups.
- Cloudflare: network and protection of the connection to the server.
- RevenueCat: purchases and subscriptions.
- Apple and Google: stores, sign-in and notifications on your phone.
- Sentry (EU): crash reports.
We never sell your information and show no ads.
7. How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. If you delete the account, your data is removed from the database immediately and from backups within 35 days. Purchase records are kept anonymised for 5 years under bookkeeping law.
8. Your rights
- Access and rectification: everything you entered can be seen and changed in the app.
- Erasure: choose Account → "Delete my account" in the app. Everything is deleted.
- Portability: write to us and we send all your content as one file.
- Objection and restriction: write to us.
- Complaint: the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet), www.datatilsynet.dk.
9. Children
The app is for people over 13.
10. Security
The connection to the server is encrypted (TLS). Each user can only see their own data and what the reading club shares (access control at database level). Backups are encrypted.
11. Changes
If we change this policy, the new version is shown in the app and the date at the top is updated.
